Privacy policy
The protection of your personal data and your privacy is very important to WEMF AG für Werbemedienforschung (hereinafter referred to as «WEMF»). You can expect WEMF to handle your data sensitively and carefully and to ensure a high level of data security.
It goes without saying that WEMF complies with the provisions of the Swiss Federal Law on Data Protection (DSG), the Ordinance to the Federal Law on Data Protection (VDSG) and other data protection regulations that may be applicable, in particular the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
In this privacy policy, WEMF informs you about the most important aspects of data processing on this website and about the data protection rights to which you are entitled.

2 Legal basis
The legal basis by which your personal data is processed depends on the purpose of the data processing in each individual case. The following shall apply:
- Your consent, which you can revoke at any time. To do so, simply send an e-mail to WEMF. The legitimacy of the data processing already carried out remains unaffected by the revocation;
- the conclusion or performance of a contract with you or in order to take steps at your request before concluding a contract;
- the safeguarding of legitimate interests, provided that your interests or fundamental rights and freedoms are not overridden;
- a legal obligation which permits the processing of data.
3 Collection and processing of personal data
Visiting the website
This website is hosted in Switzerland. When you access this website, the browser used on your terminal device automatically sends data to the server of this website. This data is temporarily stored in a log file, the so-called server log files. This data includes in particular the IP address, the operating system used and your browser, the date and time of use, the website from which access was made and other such information. This is exclusively information that does not allow any conclusions to be drawn about your person.
This data is processed exclusively for the purpose of operation (connection establishment), system security and stability, optimisation of your offer as well as for internal statistical purposes, thus on the basis of justified interests. This data is not passed on to third parties or evaluated in any other way. A personal user profile is not created.
This data and all data on this website are stored by the hosting provider Flow Swiss AG, Zwickystrasse 7, 8304 Wallisellen, Switzerland. The privacy policy of Flow Swiss AG can be found here: https://flow.swiss/privacy-policy/
Newsletter
If you would like to subscribe to the newsletter offered on this website, WEMF requires in particular your first and last name, title and (valid) e-mail address, which allow us to verify that you are the owner of the e-mail address provided or that the owner agrees to receive the newsletter. No further data is collected or only on a voluntary basis. This data is used exclusively for sending the newsletter. Your name is given in order to be able to address you personally in the newsletter and, if necessary, to identify you if you wish to exercise your rights as a data subject.
Registration for the newsletter is carried out by means of a so-called double opt-in procedure. This means that after registration you will receive an e-mail in which you are asked to confirm your registration. This confirmation is necessary so that no one can register with a foreign e-mail address. The registrations for the newsletter are logged in order to be able to prove the registration process in accordance with the legal requirements. This includes the storage of the registration and confirmation time as well as the IP address. Changes to your data stored with the dispatch service provider are also logged.
The basis for the processing of your personal data after registration for the newsletter is the existence of your consent or, if consent is not required, the legitimate interests of WEMF in direct marketing, if and insofar as this is permitted by law, e.g. in the case of advertising to existing customers. For the processing of your personal data, your consent is therefore obtained during the registration process and reference is made to this privacy policy.
The newsletter is sent using the dispatch service provider MailChimp, a newsletter dispatch platform of the US provider Rocket Science Group, LLC d/b/a MailChimp, 675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE, Suite 5000, Atlanta, GA 30308, USA. You can view the privacy policy of the mailing service provider here: https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/
The WEMF has a legitimate interest in using MailChimp. WEMF's interest is directed towards the use of a user-friendly and secure newsletter system that serves both the business interests of WEMF and the expectations of the users. MailChimp acts as an order data processor. MailChimp may use the recipients' data in pseudonymous form, i.e. without attribution to a user, to optimise or improve its own services, e.g. for the technical optimisation of the dispatch and presentation of the newsletters or for statistical purposes. However, MailChimp does not use the data of the newsletter recipients to write to them itself or to pass the data on to third parties. WEMF trusts in the reliability as well as the IT and data security of MailChimp.
The newsletters contain a so-called web beacon, i.e. a pixel-sized file that is retrieved from the MailChimp server when the newsletter is opened. As part of this retrieval, technical information such as information on the browser and your operating system, as well as your IP address and the time of the retrieval are initially collected. This information is used for the technical improvement of the services based on the technical data or the target groups and their reading behaviour based on their retrieval locations (which can be determined with the help of the IP address) or the access times. This analysis also includes determining whether the newsletters are opened, when they are opened, and which links are clicked. For technical reasons, this information can be assigned to individual newsletter recipients, but it is neither the intention of WEMF nor that of MailChimp to observe individual users. Rather, the evaluations are used by WEMF to identify the reading habits of users and to adapt the content to them or to send different content according to the interests of the users.
You have the option to unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time and to revoke the consent you have given. This will simultaneously terminate your consent to its dispatch by MailChimp and to the statistical analyses. Separate revocation of the sending of the newsletter via MailChimp and the statistical analyses is not possible. You will find a link to cancel the newsletter at the end of each newsletter. Alternatively, you have the option of sending your revocation to the following e-mail address: datenschutz@wemf.ch
Enquiries and contact form
In the case of enquiries via the contact form, your details from the enquiry form will be stored for the purpose of processing the enquiry and handling it. The data collected from a contact form is indicated on the respective contact form. The information marked with * is mandatory. All other information can be provided voluntarily by the person making the enquiry.
The basis for processing your personal data is the legitimate interest of WEMF in processing your request. Insofar as the purpose of contacting you is to conclude or execute a contract, this constitutes an additional basis.
You can object to this data processing at any time. Please send your objection to the following e-mail address: datenschutz@wemf.ch. In such a case, your request will not be processed further.
Your personal data will be deleted as soon as the request you made has been dealt with. This is the case if the circumstances indicate that the matter in question has been conclusively clarified and the deletion does not conflict with any legal obligations to retain data.
Registration
You can register on this website and for the use of WEMF's data tools in order to use additional functions on the site or to gain access to the data tools. The data entered in this regard will be used exclusively for the purpose of using the respective offer or service for which you have registered. This also includes platform-based communication with you. In addition, WEMF evaluates data relating to your use of the data tools for the optimisation or improvement of its own services and products as well as for statistical purposes. The mandatory information requested during registration must be provided in full. Otherwise the registration will be rejected.
Data tool users receive access to applications, studies, statistics and databases as well as to the WEMF data collection platforms depending on the respective user contracts that have been concluded. User data is managed on the systems of Green IT Solutions GmbH (www.greenits.ch) and Hostpoint AG (www.hostpoint.ch) in Switzerland, Immediate GmbH (www.immediate.de) and Hetzner Online GmbH (www.hetzner.com) in Germany and on the systems of Información y Control de Publicaciones (OJD) S.A. (www.ojd.es) in Spain. Customer information and the entire business administration is managed on systems in Switzerland.
The basis for processing your personal data is the existence of your consent. Insofar as the registration serves to conclude or execute a contract, this constitutes an additional basis.
You have the option of cancelling your registration at any time. You can have your personal data changed or deleted at any time. If the personal data is required for the performance of a contract or for the implementation of pre-contractual measures, early deletion of the data is only possible insofar as contractual or legal obligations do not prevent deletion.
The data collected during registration will be stored by WEMF for as long as you are registered on its website and/or its data tools after which they will then be deleted. Legal retention periods remain unaffected.
Registration for events
When registering for events, the information you provide on the registration form will be stored for the purpose of processing your registration and running the event. The data collected in a registration process is indicated on the respective registration form. The information marked with * is mandatory. All other information can be provided voluntarily by the person registering.
When using video conferencing systems for online events, WEMF uses service providers for the purpose of commissioned data processing.
The basis for the processing of your personal data is the legitimate interest of WEMF in the administration and implementation of the event. Insofar as the registration serves to conclude or execute a contract, this constitutes an additional basis.
You can object to this data processing at any time. Please send your objection to the following e-mail address: datenschutz@wemf.ch. In such a case, your registration may not be processed further and your participation in the event can no longer be guaranteed.
Audits
To participate in a media audit, registration for the use of WEMF's data tools is necessary to declare the media data to be audited and to ensure client management (see also section «Registration»).
In order to carry out media audits, WEMF commissions third parties, in particular auditing companies based in Switzerland, in addition to its own employees. For the purpose of conducting the audits, such third parties are given access to the relevant data tools of the WEMF and thus to the personal data of the participants in the audit.
In the context of auditing the media data declared by the participant, WEMF and third parties commissioned by it may request access to personal data of the audit participant's customers (for example, to mailing or subscription files containing information on subscribers to newspapers and/or magazines). Such data is used exclusively for statistical purposes in the context of auditing the declared media data (e.g. counting the number of copies sent out or the number of subscriptions to a press title). No personal evaluation takes place.
If WEMF and third parties commissioned by it store such personal data of the clients of an audit participant in the course of auditing, this data remains stored as long as it is necessary for the preservation of evidence and as long as there are legal or contractual obligations to retain it.
Market and media research
Swiss survey institutes are commissioned to conduct the media studies. The studies produced for market and media research contain data on the consumption and media usage behaviour of the study participants. The data collected in the course of market and media research is used exclusively in anonymised form for statistical purposes. Detailed information (in particular on the evaluation of your data) can be found in the context of the respective survey or where you provide your data (e.g. at the respective survey institutes). Your answers to the surveys will only be evaluated, published and passed on to third parties in anonymised form.
The anonymised statistical data is processed by third parties on behalf of WEMF and published on the website or in the data tools and made available for download. Users of the data tools are given access to these studies and statistics (see also "Registration" section).
If you have consented to the processing of your personal data for the purposes of market and media research, the processing is based on your consent. Otherwise, the processing of your personal data for market and media research is based on our legitimate interest.
You can revoke the consent you have given at any time. Please send your revocation to the following e-mail address: datenschutz@wemf.ch.
Downloads
WEMF does not require you to provide any personal data in order to download content.
Provision of contractual services
WEMF processes personal data to the extent necessary to fulfil contractual and pre-contractual obligations and to provide other services requested by you, as described in this privacy policy. The personal data processed in this context, the type, scope and purpose of the processing required in each case, are therefore determined by the contract agreed with you in each case or the services requested by you.
The deletion of the data takes place after the expiry of legal warranty, limitation and comparable obligations.
4 Cookies
This website uses so-called cookies. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your end device with the help of the browser. Cookies do not cause any damage to your end device. They cannot execute any programs or transfer any viruses to your computer. Cookies serve to make the website as a whole more user-friendly and effective and to make your visit to this website as pleasant as possible.
Most of the cookies used by WEMF are so-called session cookies. These are automatically deleted when you log out or close the browser. Other cookies remain stored on your computer beyond the respective usage process and enable WEMF or its partner companies (third-party cookies) to recognise your browser on your next visit. Insofar as other cookies (e.g. cookies to analyse your surfing behaviour) are stored, these are dealt with separately in this privacy policy.
The basis on which WEMF processes your personal data using cookies depends on whether you are asked for consent. If this is the case and you consent to the use of cookies, the basis for processing your data is your consent. Otherwise, personal data processed using cookies will be processed on the basis of legitimate interests or if the use of cookies is necessary to fulfil contractual obligations.
Regardless of whether the processing is based on consent or legal permission, you have the option at any time to revoke any consent you have given or to object to the processing of your data using cookie technologies. You can set up your browser so that it informs you about the setting of cookies and enables you to accept cookies for certain cases on an individual basis only or to generally exclude them. You can also activate the automatic deletion of cookies when closing the browser. In addition, you can delete cookies that have already been set at any time via an Internet browser or other software programmes.
The procedure for checking and deleting cookies depends on the browser you use. You can find information on this in the help menu of your browser. Please note that individual functions of this website may not work if you deactivate the use of cookies.
5 Google Analytics
WEMF uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043, USA, or if you are a resident of the European Economic Area or Switzerland, Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland («Google»).
Google uses cookies. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Google uses this information to evaluate your use of this website, to compile reports on website activity and to provide WEMF with other services related to website and internet use. The IP address transmitted by your browser as part of Google Analytics will not be merged with other Google data.
WEMF has activated the «IP anonymisation» function on this website. This means that your IP address is shortened by Google within Switzerland or the European Economic Area before being transmitted to the USA. Only in exceptional cases will the full IP address be transmitted to a Google server in the USA and shortened there.
The basis for the processing described here is the legitimate interest of WEMF. WEMF has a legitimate interest in analysing user behaviour in order to optimise both its website and its advertising. Where consent has been requested (e.g. consent to the storage of cookies), the processing is carried out exclusively on the basis of your consent.
You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser; however, please note that if you do this you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website. You can also prevent the collection of data generated by the cookie and related to your use of the website (including your IP address) by Google and the processing of this data by Google by downloading and installing the browser plugin available at the following link: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=de.
For more information on Google's use of data, settings and opt-out options, please visit Google's websites: https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=de&gl=de («Google Privacy Policy»), https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites?hl=de («Data use by Google when you use our partners' websites or apps»), https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads («Data use for advertising purposes»), http://www.google.de/settings/ads («Manage information Google uses to show ads to you»).
Demographic characteristics with Google Analytics
This website uses the «Demographic characteristics» function of Google Analytics. This allows reports to be generated that contain statements about the age, gender and interests of site visitors. This data comes from interest-based advertising from Google as well as visitor data from third-party providers. This data cannot be assigned to a specific person. You can deactivate this function at any time via the ad settings in your Google account or prohibit the collection of your data by Google Analytics in general.
6 Integration of third-party services and content
This website integrates content or services offered by third-party providers in order to incorporate their content and services, such as videos or fonts. This always requires that the third-party providers of this content are aware of the IP address of the user, as without the IP address they would not be able to send the content to their browser. The IP address is thus necessary for the display of this content. WEMF endeavours to only use content whose respective providers only use the IP address to deliver the content. Third-party providers may also use so-called pixel tags (invisible graphics, also known as "web beacons") for statistical or marketing purposes. The pixel tags can be used to analyse information such as visitor traffic on the pages of this website. The pseudonymous information may also be stored in cookies on the user's device and may include, among other things, technical information about the browser and operating system, referenced Web pages, time of visit and other information about the use of WEMF's website, as well as being linked to such information from other sources.
The basis on which WEMF processes your personal data using cookies depends on whether you are asked for consent. If this is the case and you consent to the use of cookies, the basis for processing your data is your consent. Otherwise, personal data processed using cookies will be processed on the basis of legitimate interests or when the use of cookies is necessary to fulfil contractual obligations.
Where WEMF asks for your consent to use third-party service providers, the legal basis for processing data is your consent. Otherwise, your data will be processed on the basis of WEMF's legitimate interests, i.e. interest in efficient, economical and recipient-friendly services. In this context, please also note the information on the use of cookies in this privacy policy.
Google Maps
This website integrates maps from the Google Maps service of the provider Google. The data processed may include, in particular, IP addresses and user location data. This data is usually transferred to a Google server in the USA and stored there. Google stores this data as usage profiles for the purpose of tailoring its services, advertising and market research. If you are logged in to Google, this data will be directly assigned to your account. If you do not wish this, you must log out beforehand. You can prevent the use of Google Maps by deactivating JavaScript in your browser settings. However, this may lead to functional restrictions in the use of the website in individual cases. Further information on data processing and notes on data protection from Google Maps can be found at: https://www.google.com/intl/de_de/help/terms_maps/ and https://policies.google.com/privacy.
This website uses functions of the LinkedIn network, whose provider is LinkedIn Corporation, 2029 Stierlin Court, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA, or if you have your usual place of residence in the European Economic Area or Switzerland, LinkedIn Ireland Unlimited Company, Wilton Place, Dublin 2, Ireland. Each time you access one of our websites that contains functions from LinkedIn, a connection to LinkedIn servers is established. LinkedIn is informed that you have visited our website with your IP address. If you click the LinkedIn Recommend button while logged into your LinkedIn account, it is possible for LinkedIn to associate your visit to our website with you and your user account. Please note that WEMF as the provider of the website has no knowledge of the content of the transmitted data or its use by LinkedIn. For further information, please refer to LinkedIn's privacy policy: https://de.linkedin.com/legal/privacy-policy
Vimeo
WEMF may embed videos from the Vimeo platform of the provider Vimeo Inc., Attention: Legal Department, 555 West 18th Street, New York, NY 10011, USA. Privacy policy: https://vimeo.com/privacy; opt-out: We also note that Vimeo may use Google Analytics and refer to the privacy policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy) as well as the opt-out options for Google Analytics (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=de) or Google's settings for data use for marketing purposes (https://adssettings.google.com/).
7 Disclosure of personal data
As a general rule, WEMF treats your personal data confidentially and only passes it on if you have expressly consented to this, if WEMF is obliged to do so by law or if this is necessary to enforce rights, in particular to enforce claims arising from the contractual relationship. In addition, your personal data will be passed on to third parties if this is necessary or expedient within the framework of the use of the website or for the possible provision of the services requested by you (also outside the website). It goes without saying that the legal provisions on the transfer of personal data to third parties are complied with.
If third parties are used to provide WEMF services, appropriate legal precautions and corresponding technical and organisational measures will be taken to ensure the protection of your personal data in accordance with the relevant legal provisions.
If the level of data protection in a country in which the data is processed does not comply with the applicable data protection regulations, it will be ensured that the protection of your personal data corresponds to the level of protection in Switzerland or the European Economic Area at all times. WEMF provides this assurance in particular by concluding so-called standard protection clauses of the EU Commission with the companies concerned and/or by the existence of other guarantees which comply with the applicable law.
8 Storage period
Unless expressly stated in this privacy policy, WEMF will process and store your personal data only for as long as is necessary for the fulfilment of contractual and legal obligations or otherwise for the purposes pursued with the processing, and beyond that in accordance with the statutory retention periods. As soon as your personal data is no longer required for the above-mentioned purposes or a prescribed retention period expires, your personal data will be automatically blocked or deleted in accordance with the statutory provisions.
9 Data security
WEMF takes appropriate and suitable technical and organisational measures to maintain the security of your personal data and to protect it against unauthorised or unlawful processing and/or against accidental loss, alteration, disclosure or access. This includes, among other things, the use of recognised encryption procedures (e.g. SSL encryption). The security measures are continuously improved in line with technological developments.
The company's own internal data protection is also taken seriously. WEMF employees and the service companies commissioned by WEMF are obliged to maintain confidentiality and to comply with the provisions of data protection law. Moreover, they will only be granted access to your personal data to the extent necessary.
10 Links to websites of other providers
This website may contain links to websites of other providers to which this privacy policy does not apply. After clicking on the link, WEMF no longer has any influence on the processing of any data transmitted to third parties (such as the IP address or the URL), as the behaviour of third parties is by nature beyond the control of WEMF. Therefore, no responsibility can be assumed for the processing of your personal data by third parties. Insofar as the collection, processing or use of your personal data is associated with the use of the websites of other providers, please observe the privacy policy information of the respective providers.
Illegal content was not identified at the time of establishing the link. A constant monitoring and examination of the content of the linked pages without concrete indications of an infringement is, however, not reasonable. If infringements of the law become known, the links in question will be removed immediately.

You have the right to request the correction of incorrect personal data and, if necessary, the completion of incomplete personal data.

Right to restriction of processing
Under certain circumstances, you have the right to request that the processing of your personal data be restricted.

Right of appeal
Depending on the applicable data protection legislation, you may have the right to complain to a competent data protection authority.
Please note that exceptions and limitations apply to these rights. In particular, WEMF may continue to process and store your personal data in order to fulfil a contract with you, to comply with legal obligations or to protect its own legitimate interests. To the extent legally permissible, we may therefore also refuse your data protection-related requests or comply with them only to a limited extent.
For questions in connection with data protection in practice and for information regarding your rights as well as for the assertion thereof, you can contact WEMF at the contact options specified in Section 1 of this privacy policy.
